never had to do this before, so i am asking you guys (and gals) first. i built a computer and need to ship it across a few states. will the computer survive if i just put it in the styrofoam and cardboard box that the case came it and ship it UPS? or can the components inside get damaged if they toss the box around? __________________ I think it all depends upon how much styrofoam is in the box...I've shipped a manufactured PC across the states via UPS and its arrived okay. Just make sure everything inside is tight and it should work fine. Although it would be an excellent idea to pay the extra dollar or two for UPS insurance (that way if they screw it up, they buy you new PC DO NOT DROP and phrases like that all over the outside of the box...They might see at least one of them and be a little more careful. __________________ Lots and lots of styrofoam, and insure it for at least as much as it is worth. I know people who work for UPS and they just toss boxes into trucks. Nobody cares if things are broken, they just want to send large volumes of products around the world as fast as possible.Fuz ------------------ -So I sez to him, getch yer own monkey. __________________ I'll be doing that tomorrow with my puter too. It'll have alot of styrofoam. I also suggest that after u box it, put more styrofoam on the corners and then box it again. Oh, I'm getting a packaging company to do this.__________________ thanx for the help guys - ill get me a bigger box and just smash it full of styrofoam and those peanut things and be sure to insure it.knew you guys would come thru for me __________________ Gonna cost Hella money, I shipped a 21" monitor for 60 bucks atleast... good luck and have UPS pick up, Mail box Etc, SUX!------------------ --Andrew andrew@rivtec.com __________________ yeah - but im not paying for the shipping, so i dont really care how much it costs __________________ i shipped my computer from chicago to tacoma last summer then back again. having it tight in the box is the most important thing i found out. it was four day ground and cost me $65 w/insurance for 2000. i might be a little late on this. hope it helps someone.__________________ Be careful buddy. My friend shipped his brand new computer from Cali to New York via UPS. When it got there, it was damaged. It took him the entire school quater(about 3 months) to get his money back. He told me it was a big hassel, and that he had to talk to a whole bunch of UPS people to get his money. Good Luck. |
