Grigory Rasputin is without question one of the most scandalous figures in Russian history. This randy mystic from Siberia arrived in St. Petersburg in 1911 and within a few years had become one of the most influential men in government circles. His ability to remain in such a high position despite widely publicized bouts of drinking and womanizing is no doubt the source of tremendous envy among political figures around the world today.

Rasputin's rise to preeminence was due to his close relationship with Nicholas II's wife, Alexandra. The heir to the throne, Alexis, suffered from hemophaelia, and only Rasputin could do what the top medical professors could not: he could stop the boy's bleeding. Because of this, Alexandra believed he was a holy man sent to protect Alexis and she kept him close by at all times, despite the fact that he rarely bathed.

Rasputin is as famous for his death as he is for his life. At the end of 1916, a group of aristocrats in cahoots with the Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich (a cousin of Nicholas II) decided that Rasputin's influence had grown too great and that he had to be killed in order to save Russia. They lured him to the Yusupovsky Palace on the pretext that Prince Felix Yusupovsky would introduce Rasputin to his beautiful wife.

Rasputin was led to the cellar and fed poisoned cakes and wine, but these did not affect him. Yusupovsky then shot the monk at point blank range and Rasputin collapsed on the floor.

When Yusupov went to tell his fellow conspirators the good news, they sent him back to make sure he had done the job. On returning to inspect the body, Rasputin suddenly regained consciousness and started to throttle poor Yusupov, who needless to say was completely scared out of his wits. The Prince fled the cellar, screaming for help; when they returned Rasputin was gone. They found him in the yard crawling towards the gate and proceeded to shoot and bludgeon him. They then bound him and tossed him into the river. When Rasputin's body was found, his bonds were broken and his lungs were filled with water, showing that he didn't actually die until he was submerged in the frozen waters.

~~~
now for one night only he's back here to duke it out
Nikola Tesla was born precisely at midnight on July 9, 1856, in the village of Smiljan, in the province of Lika in Croatia, Yugoslavia. Tesla discovered the principle of the rotating magnetic field which is the basis of most alternating-current technology, and is regarded as the genius who ushered in the age of electrical power.
Tesla had an intuitive way of sensing scientific secrets, and using his inventive talents to prove and apply his hypotheses. After seeing the Gramme dynamo (which, operated in one direction is a generator, and when reversed, is an electric motor), Tesla visualized a rotating magnetic field, and then developed plans for an induction motor applying the concept. The induction motor would become the first step toward the successful use of alternating-current.
Tesla immigrated to America in 1884, arriving in New York City with four cents in his pocket. He found employment with Thomas Edison in New Jersey, but differences in style between the two men soon lead to their separation. In 1885, George Westinghouse, founder of the Westinghouse Electric Company, bought patent rights to Tesla's system of alternating-current. The advantages of alternating-current over Edison's system of direct-current became apparent when Westinghouse successfully used Tesla's system to light the World Columbian Exposition at Chicago in 1893.
Tesla established a laboratory in New York City in 1887. His experiments ranged from an exploration of electrical resonance to studies of various lighting systems. To counter fears of alternating-current, Tesla gave exhibitions in his laboratory in which he lighted lamps without wires by allowing electricity to flow through his body.
When Tesla became a United States citizen in 1891, he was at the peak of his creative powers. He developed in rapid succession the induction motor, new types of generators and transformers, a system of alternating-current power transmission, fluorescent lights, and a new type of steam turbine. He also became intrigued with wireless transmission of power.
In 1900, Tesla began construction on Long Island of a wireless broadcasting tower. The project was funded with $150,000 capital from financier J. Pierpont Morgan. The project was abandoned when Morgan withdrew his financial support. Tesla's work shifted to turbines and other projects, but his ideas remained on the drawing board due to a lack of funds. Tesla's notebooks are still examined by engineers in search of unexploited ideas.
Tesla allowed himself few close friends, one of which was the writer Mark Twain, however, when he died in New York City on January 7, 1943, hundreds of admirers attended his funeral services, mourning the loss of a great genius. At the time of his death Tesla held over 700 patents.
Seriously, if you put Tesla and Faraday in a match, it'd end up in a tie. Tesla would bust out his big coil, and Faraday would bust out his big cage. Faraday would just sit in his spherical cage and laugh as Tesla zaps the metal structure with thousands upon thousands of volts. hehe. i think the loser in that battle would be the power company!
Metaphor for a mystic moment
the concert was ****ing awesome!!!! Opening act: 2 hot girls doing STRIP POKER to their underware until they "notice the audience". Then APC comes on and does all there songs + Diary of Josh (Diary of a Madman) and some other song that wasnt on the album. During 3 Libras, Paz's family came out on stage. Paz and 4 of her relatives all were playing the violin for the song. Maynard had on a long, blond wig, and eventually stripped down to a Speedo. Like at NIN, he rubbed his genitals furiously during the long bridge of Thinking of You. And they closed with Judith, what an amazing show.
For those of you who havent heard their music yet, get some of their MP3s, you will not regret it.
And their last stop on the tour is monday in SD. If you feel like driving down there, it will be worth it
Holograms and UFOs ?
by Graham W. Birdsall, Editor
UFO Magazine [UK]
A "Defense Weekly" article dated 31 March 1997, describes a quasi-information warfare/ psychological operations programme that was discussed by the USAF after Operation "Desert Storm" in the Gulf War.
This involves projection of a three-dimensional holographic image to act as decoys.
The Pentagon would have enjoyed seeing 'an angry God' or some other form of religious imagery appear above the battlefield.
The Pentagon spoke openly about its use of holographic projections when discussing its "non-lethal weapons" programme back in 1994. Since then however, the programme disappeared from view, evidently becoming a "black budget" effort, according to "Defense Weekly".
In conclusion, the article states that the U.S. Army's "JFK Special Warfare Center and School", disclosed back in 1991 that it was looking to develop a "PSYOPS Hologram System" with the capability to 'protect persuasive messages and three-dimensional pictures of cloud, smoke, rain droplets, buildings, flying saucers and religious figures'.
'The use of holograms as a persuasive message will have worldwide implications,' wrote "Defense Weekly".
An "Offensive Information Warfare Division" has now been created by the USAF and is headed by Lt. Col. 'Jimmy' Miyamoto. On communications traffic, the division is recognised as AF/XOIOW.
This division co-ordinates with the following:
Joint Chiefs of Staff; National Security Agency; Defense Intelligence Agency; Central Intelligence Agency; National Reconaissance Office; Defense Airborne Reconaissance Office and the National Imagery and Mapping Agency.
The fact that these agencies have proven links to a division which specialises in projecting holographic 'flying saucers' will come as a revelation to some, but serious UFO researchers have been aware of the fact for some considerable period of time.
Alas, little more is known about the activities of this division, or its sphere of operation.
...
there's really cool cartoons there too.
Patients who have benefitted from this alternate treatment, are denied it callously if they fall under the gaze of our all beneficient, benign legal system.
Doctor Rights Backed Under Pot Law Federal judge stops threat to pull licenses
Harriet Chiang
Chronicle Legal Affairs Writer
Friday, September 8, 2000
CALIFORNIA -- The Clinton administration suffered a defeat in its assault on California's medical marijuana law when a judge barred the federal government from punishing doctors who recommend the drug to their patients.
U.S. District Judge William Alsup of San Francisco ruled yesterday that federal authorities cannot strip doctors of their license to prescribe medicine if the physicians advise their patients to use marijuana.
The Clinton administration has fiercely attacked Proposition 215, the 1996 voter-approved initiative that allows marijuana to be prescribed for medicinal use. The government argues that marijuana is an illegal substance under federal drug laws[founded in racism].
Last month, in response to a White House request, the U.S. Supreme Court issued an emergency ruling temporarily preventing an Oakland medicinal marijuana club from opening for business.
In his opinion yesterday, Alsup issued a permanent injunction against the federal government, suggesting that to allow it to punish doctors might violate the physicians' First Amendment rights.
In California and seven other states with similar laws -- Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Maine, Nevada, Oregon and Washington -- ``recommending marijuana to treat certain debilitating illnesses is recognized as legitimate in medically appropriate circumstances,'' the judge wrote in his 24-page opinion.
In some cases, Alsup said, ``it will be the professional opinion of doctors that marijuana is the best therapy or at least should be tried.
``If such recommendations could not be communicated,'' he concluded, ``then the physician-patient relationship would be seriously impaired.''
Alsup's decision follows a 1997 ruling by U.S. District Judge Fern Smith, who issued a preliminary injunction barring the federal government from taking action against the doctors.
``My hope is that this ruling effectively puts an end to the fear that physicians have been experiencing,'' said Graham Boyd, a lawyer with the American Civil Liberties Union, which represents a statewide class of doctors and patients suing the federal government.
Gretchen Michael, spokeswoman for the Justice Department, said officials were not ready to comment on the opinion. ``We'll obviously review the decision and determine what we'll do next,'' she said.
Proposition 215 allows patients to use marijuana if they have the recommendation of a doctor. But the Clinton administration has insisted[the jerks] that federal drug regulations take precedence over state laws.
A month after voters approved the measure, the Clinton administration's drug czar, Barry McCaffrey[head moron], announced that doctors who recommend marijuana faced losing their federal license to prescribe drugs. He also suggested that they risk criminal prosecution and exclusion from Medicare and Medi-Cal.
In January 1997, a group of doctors and patients filed a statewide class action, saying the federal government was violating its free speech rights.
In his decision, Alsup said it wasn't clear that the federal drug agents intended to criminally prosecute the doctors or exclude them from Medicare and Medi-Cal.
However, Boyd said, the decision ``puts the federal government on notice that if they do threaten doctors, they'll be back in court and they'll lose.''
...
score one for warping concensus reality
I'm curious,
How can a district Judge overturn a Supreme court ruling? Is this really an overruling, or just a butting heads
between local and federal judiciary authority (interesting as it would be)? Does the fact that the Supreme Court's
was a temporary "emergency" ruling have anything to do with it? How can the Supreme court [Clinton] respond
(Dare I ask)? I'm sure this is not the end of this battle by any means.
Some of the accompanying explanations are logically reinforced by "facts" which have no apparent basis in reality.
I am very supportive of thinking "outside the box" to use that hackneyed corporate cliche, but it has to make sense to be believable. Your bass-ackward logic often makes no rational sense, which is why I deride many of your posts. VMA awards
Ok I can't believe I actually watched that whole show last night. From the not even close to being funny opening monologue by the Waynes Bros, to the jumping midgets during Blink 182. What was MTV thinking when they put this show together. Did they they actually think people would enjoy it. It was the worst awards show I have ever seen. Christina Aguilpuka looked like a two dollar whore from Times Square. That chick looks like she belongs in junior high, not on stage singing. Britney looked good when she did her performance, but what chick wouldn't if they stripped down to almost nothing and danced around. The whole show needed to be reworked because it just did not work. If MTV hires the waynes brothers back next year to host then there is no way I will watch it.
