Component Output: please explain!

Now, I see that the PS2 has these new-fangled component output thingamajigees. Can you use normal RCA cables to hook that badboy up, or are we looking at something else? Like some sort of optical cable or something? Help, Leon!!

__________________
You use normal RCAs, but only if your TV has the component inputs. Otherwise you gotta use S-Video. And if your TV doesn't have that, you gotta gotta use the normal single-RCA video.
__________________
Thanks for the reply, I actually just found out that Stupid Sony requires a special type of connector/cable for the PS2-component output. I'm also pretty sure I have component outputs... I have a WEGA XBR 400
__________________
Four types of connections ranging from best to worst:

1) Component (video signal separated into three)
2) S-Video (separated into two)
3) Compostite (one signal)
4) RFU (crap)

For your PS2/XBR combo, it would be a shame not to use component. I think you can get a PS2 component cable for like $10 at EB.

Hmm... The 3rd party one was half that price. Not sure if the quality was a big difference. Monster is going to make PS2 component cables now. I'm sure it's going to be $50-$100 too. SHEESH! Give me the 3rd party cables, thankyouverymuch.

Who R U tryin' to Scare?

The Supreme Court as Scare Tactic

Jeff Milchen, Pacific News Service

October 31, 2000

The Supreme Court has been placed in the spotlight in the presidential race once again, but despite all the attention, citizens receive few facts from either major party candidate.

Gore's campaign has played the fear game, using the Supreme Court as trump. "We can't let George Bush select justices" is the refrain sung with hints of back-alley abortions.

The idea that Republicans will nominate justices that threaten women's reproductive choices has been repeated uncritically so often that voters start to believe it. But it's an argument that wilts under scrutiny.

Indeed, if you ask Democrats to name a progressive justice appointed by a Democratic president, you'll likely face blank stares. Today's court includes two Clinton nominees, but many legal scholars consider them less progressive than Justices David Souter and John Paul Stevens, both nominated by Republicans -- the former by George W. Bush's dad.

The Gore campaign invokes Roe v Wade at every opportunity, but fails to mention that the court issuing that decision was dominated by six Republican-nominated judges. The decision itself was written by Harry Blackmun, a Nixon appointee.

Any honest Democrat also would acknowledge that one of the strongest progressive forces on the Court over the last 50 years was William Brennan, another Republican (Eisenhower) nominee.

So should civil liberties advocates rally for Bush? Hardly. But it is worth noting that in presenting justices like Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas as legitimate examples of what progressives fear, Gore's boosters ignore that Supreme Court justices' voting records often differ tremendously from the ideology of the presidents who nominate them. Choosing presidents based on their likely Supreme Court nominees is a shaky proposition.

Remember also that the party controlling the Senate has the ultimate power to confirm or deny nominations. As a Senator, Gore voted to confirm Scalia, a justice he now touts as an example of why progressives must defeat Bush by voting for Gore and not for Ralph Nader.

Gore's own record should give pause to pro-choice voters. In the House of Representatives, Gore and Republican vice-presidential candidate Dick Cheney voted identically -- "pro-life" -- on 13 of 14 abortion-related issues during the six years they served together.

Gore's votes gained him an 84% approval rating from the National Right to Life League (NRLC.org). His votes changed substantially in the Senate, but still he voted for the Hyde Amendment, restricting access to abortion for poor women. More troubling, he contends his views on abortion have "never changed."

Despite these facts, organizations allegedly protecting the interests of pro-choice women have joined Gore's scare campaign. A new commercial by the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League (view at NARAL.org) claims that Bush's goal is "ending legal abortion" and warns, "Before voting Nader, consider the risk."

If the risk NARAL refers to is the risk that most women in the U.S. could be without easy access to abortion, it's too late. According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, 83 percent of U.S. counties have no abortion providers. In rural areas, the number climbs to 93 percent. Gore may be closer to NARAL positions than Bush is, but the "hero vs. villain" scenario is fraud.

While the abortion issue gets most coverage, citizens concerned with personal freedom should examine the courts' broader impact, particularly the ongoing erosion of Bill of Rights protections in the name of suppressing "terrorism," government-disfavored drugs, and even political dissent. Nominees of both major parties have disappointed Bill of Rights supporters on these issues in recent years.

Discussion of Supreme Court actions often overlooks the fact that the court traditionally has been a follower, not a leader, of public opinion and will likely continue in that role regardless of who is president. Given the overwhelming public support for Roe v Wade, I'd bet against Bush appointing a justice who would overturn that decision -- such an act would be self-inflicted sabotage for his career and party.

Appointments to the federal judiciary do deserve serious consideration when we choose our president, but too many Americans have strong opinions on the topic based on inadequate or false information.

Before citizens succumb to voting out of fear rather than conviction, we should consider one thought: how can we expect our elected officials to vote their conscience if we don't?

Jeff Milchen is the director of ReclaimDemocracy.org.

This would mean that rich people would have no right to pass laws that specifically discriminated against the poor, like anti-abortion acts. We all gnow that even the most anti-abortion crusader has second thoughts when it comes down to having his 15 year old daughter carry through with an unwanted pregnancy. That's the hypocrisy of the whole movement to ban abortion; they don't mind banning it here because they can always go mexico or europe; poor people wouldn't have that choice.

The federal government has no right to be unilaterally condemning and outlawing medical procedures no more so than we would let monkeys into operating rooms.

Now I feel this race will result in the lowest popular vote percentage ever for an elected president, meaning whoever we elect will be kept right on their toes if they don't want to get kicked out in; i.e. they will want to stay popular. Moving to ban abortion would not be popular and I bet will disappear as a topic unless the democrats don't learn their lesson about their 'third way' and decide maybe banning abortion would win THEM brownie points; at this point I wouldn't put it past them.

Vote for the candidate that truely stands for what U believe; I think for most people this means a third party candidate.

unless U want to do what tv tells U

Can someone give me a link like it, please?

otherwsie you can go into any casino and ask any of the dealers for a stragey card and they will give you one that ells what to do in 99% of given situations

just deont read it while your playing cause you will piss off everyone at the table including the dealer and you may be asked to laeave

You can actually make a little scratch on the online casinos that use Microgaming software, if you're patient and controlled. The house gets hot and cold streaks. The trick is to bet low during the hot runs (5-10 hands) and high during the cold runs (2-5) hands. I had a chart that worked very well.

The odds are in favor of the house, yes, but I think blackjack is one of the few casino games where knowing what to do is as big apart of your winning as luck. Ask the dealer what you should do if you're stumped--they want to see you win as much as you do, since it'll mean a bigger tip for them.

Off the top of my head: Always double-down on 11 and never take insurance unless you have a blackjack.

Another couple tidbits of wisdom . . . always assume the dealer has a face card or a 10 as his/her hidden card.

If the dealer has a 6 showing, you're in good shape (c:

Also, if you have a Palm, you can download a Blackjack cheat program that shows you what the best thing to do statistically is given what you have and what the dealer is showing - There's even a quiz game so you can test yourself. It's not freeware and I don't remember what it's called offhand, but you can test it out for a little while before it starts yapping to you to register it.

Ah yes...but only if the house stands on all 17. Then, it's pretty safe to stand on 4 and 5 also.

Oh and another tip: when you lose three hands in a row, quit, no matter how well you were doing before. Come back another time and start over.

I don't like online casinos. The same general rules don't seem to apply to them as real casinos. Plus it's not the same when you can't get free drinks.

A friend dressed as 'Processed Cheese Man' handed out the candies. It was halarious!
He was making them yell "Trick or Treat!"
It was fun.

Sorry to hear your's wasn't so good...

heh heh, have you ever seen paladin beg for ops in the Got|Apex? IRC room? If you saw that...you'd understand the urge to be a mod...or just really not want to be associated with it at all...
