Washington Post article __________________ survivor was a clone itself actually - from a swedish show named (i think) "robinson" after the swiss family robinson. an indian one would be kinda cool though... but they'd have to put them in like siberia or something, because indians would already be used to heat and eating rice and bugs all day. hehe, no offense.__________________ Actually, I think it was the clone of a clone. I work with a few guys from the UK, and they said they had "Survivor" there before, but it was called "Castaways".And in what manner is calling indians "bug eaters" not offensive? That's like calling Chinese people "dog eaters" or something. hehe, that is offensive, even if you didn't mean it. __________________ no no no, bugs are a delicacy in india... like beetles and what not. i didn't mean anything at all by saying that. the point i was trying to make is that a new approach will be needed as indians are accustomed to a diet based upon things such as rice. the cuisine in india is such that bugs to them would not be as repulsive as it is to americans. i hope this clears things up some.__________________ Yes, Survivor was a rip-off.The original series was called Gilligan's Island __________________ quote: hahaha good one. __________________ Dude, I don't know what freaky Indians you've been talking to! My parents are from India and from the way my mom reacts to cockroaches, um, she's not thinkin food hehe. The weird thing about Indian diet is everything has to be frickin spicy and it's all veggie for the most part. Personally, I keep my 12 guage and Bessy out in the backyard for those summer BBQs hehe ------------------ Ço£o§§ü§ - yeah you can read into it... __________________ mmmm mmmm mmmm.. spicy Indian food. Gotta love that. Of, course, good ole' Bessie burgers are always good, too. ------------------ §=-Sp34dFr34k-=§ __________________ is there any connection between the indian rupee and the rupees used in zelda games? it strikes me as odd to call the currency in a fantasy video game after real currency.__________________ quote: I definitely agree!!!! __________________ Zelda, eh? Time to break out the nesticle, and start playing that some more. what a classic. Speaking of nesticle, got to love the genecyst too __________________ Most of the RPG and D&D stuff are actually based off of Indian mythology of some type. That's why the funky words like Avatar (an Indian word) are used - in essence it it the highest form of goodness or some spiel like that. It's a sanscrit word according to my dad.So yeah, I'm guessing the rupee would be the same. "Oh, welcome Homer Simpson. My name is Apu". __________________ rupees sounds like a VD |

MaggieOK is going to be on TV?
C'mon Maggie!! First you post that you have a website, but you don't want anybody to know, now you post that you are going to be on tv because of your website, but you don't want anybody to watch it. What's up with that?? I don't know about you, but the one of the biggest things with having a website, is to get as many people as possible to visit it. I don't know about anybody else, but I like to enjoy seeing when my friends succeed. __________________ quote: Oh my!!! Someone tape this and post it here __________________ Uh.. no. I'll hurt anyone who tries it.__________________ even if you have NOOO idea where we live, or who we are? [This message has been edited by RoniMan (edited 08-30-2000).] [This message has been edited by RoniMan (edited 08-30-2000).] __________________ Hrm... Network Solutions says that Maggie's somewhere in the vicinity of Hallett, OK... and how the hell many TV stations can be in such a boring-sounding town? (kidding Maggie, kidding Nah Maggie, I won't be the one hunting for your TV broadcast, but I think you should post it up yourself __________________ i would be proud if i was on tv.__________________ Why are you going to be on TV? How did this come to be?__________________ Yes MaggieOK, put it up __________________ Where's maggie's website again?__________________ www.dealhunting.com__________________ Thanks nicemann.__________________ Alright.. just for you guys. The site is http://www.dealhunting.com (Oh, BTW, I got special permission from Apex to post that url in my signatures, so no flames please.) The press taping is next Tuesday afternoon at my home. I assume it will be aired sometime within a day or two of the taping. And I live in Tulsa, OK. I haven't lived in Hallett for years now. But I don't like giving the public my address. Ya know? I'm not telling you the channel. There are only 5, so just hope you get lucky. The story is going to be about DealHunting.com and the fact that I'm a parent of 4 who has made it onto the internet profitably, yadda yadda yadda and can stay home with my family. So, everyone please visit DealHunting and tell me what you think. I'd really like to start doing some hardware and game reviews but I need some volunteers. (Might be willing to compensate you not too far down the road.) Maggie __________________ Alright!! Good job, Maggie. Thank You.Now, if anybody can tape that and digitize it, I would appreciate it. I don't live near there, but I would really like to see it. Heck, if you can't digitize it, I will pay you to send me a VHS copy. Like I said, I like seeing people that I know succeed. Nothin wrong with people wanting to see other people's 15 minutes of fame, eh? ------------------ §=-Sp34dFr34k-=§ __________________ quote: There must be more people here from Tulsa. quote: The site looks great!! Using the wrong word.
your totally correct. i couldn't agree more. people need to be more observant about what they type in they're comments. sometimes, when spelling is not correct, i cannot respect a person's opinions because there word use is less than perfect. __________________ I understand what you're talking about. But you gotta live with it man. There's more ignoramus people in the world than intelligent people.__________________ One thing that annoys me more are people who write/type incorrectly hardware terms. The biggest is MB and mb. They think its the same when actually MB=MegaByte, mb=megabit. Guess its just 'cause most people don't realize it or are to damn lazy. Hmm. . . I bet that's why people have a hard time spelling right and using correct words.__________________ ...or when people call a PC a CPU. That one is very annoying. actually, it should be MB and Mb spigidygak, as a small 'm' refers to milli- while a capital 'M' refers to mega-. see, i'm being overly-critical again. oh whoa is me. haha. __________________ Your so right overclocked Seriously, you're so right. I don't know how many times I encounter this problem, especially in the work place when people are supposed to emit professionalism, and all that comes out is pure crap! Thanks for posting my thoughts exactly ------------------ ~CivicGirlRacer __________________ I must admit that I'm a bit torn right now. I want to agree with you b/c I do notice this common problem quite frequently. But on the other hand, I want to chastise you for bringing up something and taking so much time to declare something that everybody already knows. All of the things that were mentioned are extremely common mistakes in the English language and are already known without added recognition. But on the other hand, yet again, I am being much more careful in how I type this reply, so.....maybe, overclocked, you have done some good in this world afterall...maybe__________________ I don't know about anyone else, but I am sick to death of people using the wrong word when they type a sentence. For example, "Your welcome." The correct spelling is, of course, "You're welcome." What is so difficult to understand here? If you can say "you are" instead of "your" then you can optionally say "you're", but using "your" in such a case is completely incorrect. You might as well substitute the word "purple" or "pavement". Using one of these words (or any word other than "you're") is just as incorrect as "your". This has gotten so bad that I've even seen this misused on the covers of a couple magazines! Also, "there" is another word a lot of people don't know how to use correctly. There is "there", "their", and "they're". How many times have you seen "I saw this on there website" or "Their going to be posting this soon"? It should be, of course, "their website" and "they're going". I honestly do not understand how so many people can be so ignorant. Ignorant, if you look it up, is not an insult, it simply implies a lack of knowledge. So don't bust my chops about being insulting. You may respond that I am picking on incorrect grammar. I am not. Grammar refers to things like mixing the tenses in a sentence, or saying, "I got some of those" instead of the proper "I have some of those". I am not picking on grammar. I am also not suggesting that we all start speaking "properly". My point is that there is a correct way to use slang and vernacular. I'll give you an example. We all know what "dirty old man" means, right? Well, my stepfather calls me a "dirty old man" when I simply tell him a funny (perfectly clean) tech support story. He uses the vernacular phrase "dirty old man" incorrectly. Of course, you can't tell him that, but that's another topic altogether. Ok, I'm done. Thank you, Apex, for giving us this forum. And thanks to all of you for agreeing with me. Later. __________________ How about not using a cap. letter at the beginning of each sentence... ------------------ ------------------ Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da ------------------ __________________ I would rather see no capital letters at all than to see someone type in ALL CAPS __________________ quote: How'd I know you'd respond to that...ESP I guess. ------------------ ------------------ Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da ------------------ __________________ Don't get so upset, there just a bunch of idiots. I know most of us want to bash they're heads in with they're keyboards, but don't even sweat it because your just gonna be stressed. Its just not worth it.__________________ I think the thing that annoys me the most is improper use of elipses. It is supposed to be only three with a space between each like so ". . ." But people just use 'em like so....... or ...... or....................... or... Pisses the crap out of me. . . if that's possible __________________ Damn you, what kind of company is that?!?! You can't even do it right!!! /me grabs a frozen trout out of basket and slaps chosenfool and fixes his misuse of elipse. It's ". . ." GOT IT?!?! /me slaps chosefool once more for good measures. . . hehehe. . . call me anal-retentive [This message has been edited by spigidygak (edited 08-30-2000).] __________________ cool...........now i know how to annoy spigidygak............ __________________ Wear eber yugo, der U R;0) __________________ GAH!!! you go to hell stonedwheat. __________________ What is even more annoying, to me, is the unnecessary restating of the last word in acronyms that has become so common. The computer needs a NIC card. . . His BAL level was .08. . . Whats your APR rate?. . . My PIN number, the cars VIN number Come on! We're completely ignoring the placement of the N. If we were meant to say NUMBER every time, then it'd be a VI number and a PI number. And that doesn't sound right at all. !!!!!! __________________ Hehe, that annoys me to a lot.__________________ ...like SAL level too (for the layperson, sterility assurance level) __________________ Whoa, I guess I'm not the only anal-retentive __________________ shiiiiiiiiit, calm down. This isn't english class. And why is it so important to speak properly?? It really really isn't that important. The reason I come here is to express my thoughts and idea's, and as long as people understand what I'm trying to say its pointless to put effort into making it look nice and neat. __________________ Hehe. Yeah, I didn't mean to make it sound like I was getting on anybody's case from this board - just an observation in general In response to your comment about speaking properly. . .I'm not sure whether you are referring to text-conversations such as these or speech in the real world. Although the "correct use of acronyms" has little to nothing to do with it, in the real world I do think it is rather importatnt to speak properly. Not to the point of being excessively formal or condescending by any means. . .But I don't think that you can achieve the same credibility by talking in slang as you can when you put your words and sentences together properly. __________________ yousa no speaka propa ingleesh?__________________ Shut up Jar Jar, ever'n tin' no' be ariee.__________________ and closer |
