Hey, so everybody know, the Big Stink is a concert put on by a local portland radio station, knrk. These bands were there: jimmmies chicken shack, 8 stops 7, stroke 9, dandy warhols, 3 doors down, kottonmouth kings, papa roach, mxpx, deftones, fenix tx, and moby. __________________ Forgot to mention, Moby also called the republicans some very naughty things ------------------ The Minister of Sinister __________________ Sniff sniff phew what stinks? More philosophy, telekinesis?
well clueless, i guess like qigong. although i've never really had a name to put on it. one of my instructors introduced me to the concept. he has studied much with the body's chi and showed me ways to project it. i've used it on myself numerous times from after sparring matches to volleyball games on the beach. other than myself, however, i have only successfully used it on two other people - after tournements. so, i'm convinced that that the body's chi exists and that we can focus it, but i'm still filled with too much doubt at this point to move up from healing to anything else. and, doubt as we know is the barrier that inhibits the flow of our minds. __________________ and att, not telepathy young jedi; we know that weak minds are easily influenced. __________________ following renots philosophy thread... anyone ever consider the extensive ability of the mind or our energy? i've had success using the body's energy for healing, primarily with injuries from martial art training, but i'm wondering if anyone has had success with extending this to influence other objects. or if anyone has any thoughts on it or has even considered it.__________________ healing eh?QiGong? I wanted to learn that but not sure if i ever can succeed. ------------------ ~Reality is an illusion~ __________________ i have had some success in my younger days getting women to throw themselves at my feet. just send $29.95 and i'll send you a pamphlet explaining how.__________________ Which martial arts is it that teaches you chi? That would be a very useful tool for speeding the natural healing process. I don't suppose you have any references?I myself haven't witnessed or know anybody that has influenced objects, but i think it probably exists within the laws of the universe. I agree with your belief that external focusing of chi exists in the laws of the universe, just watch a documentary on the shao lin monks and that’ll cure any doubts. next question, i see god as a universal energy binding everything together. so, i believe in god, yes, but not in the devil. paradoxical, hmmm? __________________ quote: Yea I want to learn QiGong to focus chi to heal myself quicker. Hall __________________ http://deoxy.org/gnosis10.htm The Ten Major Principles of the Gnostic Revelation From Exegesis, by Philip K. Dick The Gnostic Christians of the second century believed that only a special revelation of knowledge rather than faith could save a person. The contents of this revelation could not be received empirically or derived a priori. They considered this special gnosis so valuable that it must be kept secret. Here are the ten major principles of the gnostic revelation: 1.The creator of this world is demented. 2.The world is not as it appears, in order to hide the evil in it, a delusive veil obscuring it and the deranged deity. 3.There is another, better realm of God, and all our efforts are to be directed toward a.returning there b.bringing it here 4.Our actual lives stretch thousands of years back, and we can be made to remember our origin in the stars. 5.Each of us has a divine counterpart unfallen who can reach a hand down to us to awaken us. This other personality is the authentic waking self; the one we have now is asleep and minor. We are in fact asleep, and in the hands of a dangerous magician disguised as a good god, the deranged creator deity. The bleakness, the evil and pain in this world, the fact that it is a deterministic prison controlled by the demented creator causes us willingly to split with the reality principle early in life, and so to speak willingly fall asleep in delusion. 6.You can pass from the delusional prison world into the peaceful kingdom if the True Good God places you under His grace and allows you to see reality through His eyes. 7.Christ gave, rather than received, revelation; he taught his followers how to enter the kingdom while still alive, where other mystery religions only bring about amnesis: knowledge of it at the "other time" in "the other realm," not here. He causes it to come here, and is the living agency to the Sole Good God (i.e. the Logos). 8.Probably the real, secret Christian church still exists, long underground, with the living Corpus Christi as its head or ruler, the members absorbed into it. Through participation in it they probably have vast, seemingly magical powers. 9.The division into "two times" (good and evil) and "two realms" (good and evil) will abruptly end with victory for the good time here, as the presently invisible kingdom separates and becomes visible. We cannot know the date. [That would be no fun :0)] 10.During this time period we are on the sifting bridge being judged according to which power we give allegiance to, the deranged creator demiurge of this world or the One Good God and his kingdom, whom we know through Christ [consciousness]. To know these ten principles of Gnostic Christianity is to court disaster. (now he tells us?) :0) __________________ [removes hands from eyes] Nope[/removes hands from eyes |

cable or dsl
Moving to correct forum. __________________ which is better------------------ Have you ever stopped to think, and forget to start again?????????????? __________________ do the research in your area.__________________ If you're serious about your online gaming or want to run your own LAN, go DSL.If you're only gonna surf and download, go cable. __________________ In theory DSl, you do not share the bandwidth of the Pipe to your neighborhood with DSL, but as mentioned check your are for performance and cost issues. I live in S. Florida and the DSL is the same rated speed of Cable and the pricing is similar, but not the same all over. I live in an older neighborhood so there are not many cable subscribers and I have had it for 3.5 yrs so I stay put. for now..... Oh and Speed Matters, I would not move if high speed wasn't available in the area... __________________ Cable is better if you are going to make a ftp server, or make websites and use your modem as the server for the website cause cable modems have static ip addresses while the dsl that costs the same price doesn't. Plus my cable is much faster then dsl.__________________ My DSL line runs almost as fast as the T3 line I use at UCLA. I have a static IP and it costs the same as all of my friends' cable modems. Go DSL__________________ quote: This is a perfect example why you shouldn't ask technical or financial questions in here. This guy has no clue what he/she is talking about. DLS or cable has nothing to do with static or non-static IP address allocation. Even if you had a non-static IP address, you can always get a dynamic DNS. Let's stick to bargains and deals. __________________ I agree with the first response. Some DSL providers have static IP's others don't and you may have to pay extra for it. Some cable networks may be setup poorly where there are shared bandwidth problems. I tried both DSL and Cable and found the cable service to be : 1. More reliable.DSL service was spotty with both Bell Atlantic and Telocity.(Take advantage of free monthly offers.) 2. Cable was much faster in upload and dnld in order to reach the same results with DSL I would have to pay extra. 3. Price is pretty much the same $49/month and includes modem (if you have a cable tv service or digital phone service it is discounted to $39/month). DSL didn't have the same offers, but may soon. 4. I would recommend try both services(most services have a 30 day trial period) and see which one is best in your area for a price you can afford. Also look into getting a Dlink or Linksys router switch to share your internet connection. To compare speeds and get info check out www.dslreports.com they have length to CO calculators and bandwidth tests as well as reviews of the service providers out there. Good Luck everyone's findings will vary with location. Some areas have good DSL some have good cable... |

How do you get UBB?
The espn message boards are just horrible, and it's pretty much the only place to get meaningful or thoughtful information on my home team (the Grizzlies...ok, you can stop laughing, we're gonna be good this year! Really!). So I wanted to start a low-traffic message board much like what Apex has got here. Is UBB a program, or...what the heck is it? Can anyone tell me how to get it or any other BBS-type program? Do you have to pay for this? Throw me a frickin' bone here, people! __________________ UBB costs $200, that's what I have. If you want to buy a UBB, would be nice to email me and let me give you a link. It's worth $30 in commission to me. __________________ at least you don't live in DC pennypinch....__________________ You have to pay a yearly license according to the website... suckage. www.ultimatebb.com__________________ quote: i dont know where YOU went to college- but i will have gone to school with more NBA/future NBA players than many people around... I belive we are preseason #5 in the country. so eat me __________________ quote: Hey, how many teams can say they have the greatest player that ever lived running the show. I guess it doesn't really help when you look at your team, though, huh...I heard we might sign Tracey Murray, but now that we got T-Mass today, that's looking less likely. I feel for ya, dogg, the Bullets/Wiz-ons do suck worse than the Grizz now. __________________ quote: If I do buy it, Maggie, I'll be sure to let you know. I like winning...this way we both win! Hurrah! __________________ quote: I think we just got worse since MJ came to town...but its a cool thing to catch him in the box at games...I mean its not everyday you get to see a legend. Plus- thats weird that you mention Tony Massenburg by T-Mass like you're super familiar ...The other day I was at a family gathering, and my uncle was telling me about how he was Tony Massenburg's dentist, since he practices in the U of Maryland area, and T was a Terp in college (like me __________________ you can always get a pirated version of ubb for free =P theres a ton of small sites w/ pirated ubb out there.. but if you are running a big site and your ubb is pirated.. you'll be doing the same thing as trying to sell store shelf software thats compiled w/ pirated msvs.. heheh..__________________ quote: What? Not paying attention to a relative at a family gathering? TMass is one of the fondest adopted sons of Vancouver. If you remember the Steve Francis fiasco (another Terp, might I add, who would be better characterized as a Twerp), few players really enjoy playing in Canada, let alone Vancouver. But TMass not only loves Vancouver (was genuinely excited to be coming back) but played out of his mind last time he was here (before getting traded to Houston). Even if he doesn't play like that again, he's a fan favorite, a great guy in the locker, and a piller in the community. There aren't enough guys like Tony Massenburg on any team. He's what's right about pro sports, end of story. __________________ quote: I'll have you know, Mr. I-have-seen-some-future-NBA'ers-so-I'm-a-baller-by-association, that my Pomona Fighting Sagehens could probably be beaten by a decent high school team. Meanwhile, you have the dubious honour of producing perhaps the WORST 1st overall pick of all time, Mr. Smith. So eat that, Twerp. __________________ How do you get UBB? Here's a hint: YOU DON'T. IT SUCKS. Get something built on a database instead of CGI. You'll thank me later. This reminds me, we're moving formats. There are two in the running. *sigh* difficult decision though. Do we go to one that looks almost like this but is much much faster and can import all the UBB stuff (accounts, messages, etc), OR do we go to fusetalk which is also faster and looks much better, but cannot import stuff? __________________ From a growth standpoint, I say go with the one that can't import but is faster and better looking. Most of the archives are dead deals anyway and 99% of the gotapex visitors wouldn't mind reregistering.JMO. Maggie __________________ quote: Frankly, I don't think the fusetalk bells and whistles are all that great. If you can import all the data here, like old forum topics which I use all the time, and stiff use less system resources, I'd say go with that. There's nothing wrong with the look here, whatsoever. Thanks for the tip. How much are the systems you're looking at. Let's remember this is a really low-traffic use we're talking about... __________________ If there's something better than UBB then bring it on Apex! "Just bring it." __________________ quote: If you want a low traffic message board with UBB, you can always go with ezboard __________________ quote: Frankly, I don't like how fusetalk looks. Maybe it will grow on me if I had to use it. __________________ I've seen many different types of message boards out there. UBB is the most widely used. But UBB has some problems. The main problem with UBB is that the more messages and threads posted the more unstable it gets. That's why increasingly you see error messages popping up here with more frequency. Yes UBB's stability has gone up with newer versions but it still isn't as good as competing bbs solutions. Another problem is that UBB is more easily hacked. (no I didn't do this).Fusetalk is fast and has some nice preferences you can set. Like how many messages you see in a thread and being able to change some of the colors of the bbs according to your wishes. But fusetalk seems a bit sterile in my view. I miss being able to click next newest topic or next oldest topic to go to a neighboring thread in a fusetalk bbs. This helps out when your on a massive posting spree. The fusetalk developers also need to do something about that the bright background where replys are. (Yes people have complained about it before and no you can't change that color). What's the second format your considering Apex? Arstechnica's bbs uses Opentopic which is by the same company that makes UBB. Opentopic is more stable, can have more messages without any problem and is faster than UBB. Opentopic however is more expensive. This recently started bbs by some anandtechers uses vBulletin. Finally Apex my advice is when you make the switch get the new bbs up as soon as possible! When AGN3D when it switched from UBB to fusetalk last October it was down for days. Then even when it went back up the link pointed to the old bbs. The result was this caused some membership not to come back. I only found out about the bbs being up by someone sending me an email. It also would be nice to have some warning when the changeover is going to be done. So people won't wonder what's going on (was the bbs hacked? did it crash?) And people can save their user profile and brag about how many posts they had back in the good old days on the old bbs. And remember even after switching some people are going to be moaning that they liked the old bbs better. Just be prepared for it. Or just send Darth to have a little talk with them. haha Originally posted by Apex: How do you get UBB? Here's a hint: YOU DON'T. IT SUCKS. Get something built on a database instead of CGI.
