Minidiscs vs. Mp3

i'm thinking about buying one of the two types of players - md or mp3. which do YOU think is better? which format do you think will take the lead in the future? opinions everyone! __________________ i prefer mp3, and i think that it will be the winner BUT mini disk media is a lot cheaper that flash cards. However, now that I own one, I see some of the benefits: nice battery life, doesn't skip, and way more managable than mp3 players (MD media cost $1.50-$3 per for 74 minutes.) The ability to swap discs is important when you consider five MD's will cost you $15, max. Five flash cards will cost you ??? Yikes. __________________ I've got both, but I'm to lazy to rip the mp3's for the MD, oh well. __________________ It doesn't really matter which one will take over in the future since you won't be actually buying pre-recorded media like audio cd's. So go with what you like better. I personally have a minidisc player set-up because of the cheaper media and since it was out before mp3 players. But I am going to get that nomadII in someday (emusic deal) so I'll find out for sure what I like better. But it doesn't really matter if either one doesn't do well in the future since you'll be making your own mixes. Actually it'd be nice if minidiscs lost popularity. MD give you more flexablity and higher quality (optical line) but you will have to record them but you can record live =) while mp3 is easier to select songs and stuff but u always have the fear that a higher quality format comes out and kills it ... ie. how mp2 are killed by mp3 .. yea yea i am old to know that there has been talks of making layer 4 technology by using Yamaha VQ with something else but that has yet to be seen... So go with what suits your situation best. I agree with Pennypinch, it's worth it to be able to change discs. I like to listen to a variety of music, and with an mp3 player, you only have as much music as your mem. card. I got one last summer and it rocks. It's small and has a very long battery life. I can record anything that outputs sound on to a minidisc, even mp3s. I put some of my mp3s on a minidisc so I can listen to them on the road. I will recommend the MD over mp3 players. The greatest factor is price. While the player itself might not differ in cost, its the additional cost that matters. A single minidisc costs about $3, that's 74min of any sound format for $3. Now a 64MB of flash memory for a mp3 player costs, holy ****, alot! like $150. Now an average mp3(128kbps) takes about 1MB/min. so that's about 64minutes of mp3 for $150. And if you want more music, you'll have to buy more memory. So, need i say more? Go w/ MD. You can still use your mp3s. And holographic music is not anywhere close in the future, if that's even possible that is.
