I'm planning to finally get either service and would appreciate any feedbacks (especially from personal experience). Here are some following info that might help: __________________ I myself like cable. I had dsl before cable was available in my city..but as soon as cable was here I jumped at the chance. Cable is a major improvemnet (at least in my area). Not only do I like the speed better I also like the service. I guess most of that depends on what area you live in. Either way you will be better off then your 56k. btw I currently have Comcast@home ~NiceMann __________________ dsl is much more secure than cable. and plus, you dont have to share your bandwith with everyone in the neighboorhood. you can also run a server off your computer (most of the cable companies dont let you - but thats different with each area you live in)__________________ I have Roadrunner Cable and it has been great. The speed has never dropped for me because the Time Warner said that if they get more people then there current system will handle, then they will upgrade the system to keep the high speed and it looks like they are doing that, because I KNOW that their service is growing in this area.Plus, they don't seem to care about having servers because I have have had transfers of 10GB both ways (ul/dl) in like 5 days time before. So I love it. ------------------ §=-Sp34dFr34k-=§ __________________ Hey guys, thanks for the feedback.I actually tried to contact pacbell to get some more info but i was put on hold for around 30 minutes and i pretty much gave up. Also asked a friend about his dsl service and he said that it took them(pacbell) forever to install it. Right now I am leaning towards cable modem but there seems to be a concern on security. I am planning on running a firewall(software) to alleviate potential problems, will this be enough? __________________ I have a software firewall and if you try to test it it will say that your ip doesn't exist. Seems to work rather well. It would be for those random instances where people have scanners to scan ramdom ips to see if they could get in.If you still don't feel that is enough, just turn the computer off when you aren't using it. ------------------ §=-Sp34dFr34k-=§ __________________ Does cable offer as good of upload bandwidth as DSL?__________________ If you're lucky enough to have roadrunner as your cable provider, their upload speeds are not capped, atleast last time i asked someone who had the service. For @home users and pacbell dsl users, upload speeds are capped at 128kbps.__________________ I like the stable download/upload rates of DSL, but cable can run faster than DSL. I've seen people in my area who have it having bandwidth problems. I'm going with DSL. |
