Does anyone know where I can get good speakers for a DVD player? I just got the Toshiba DVD Player w/Receiver for $270, from buy.com http://www.us.buy.com/retail/clearan...001054&loc=114 __________________ One thing I do know for sure, you won't get a very impressive hometheater with those speakers...Nothing to brag about, so to speak Don't buy computer speakers since it is dvd-movies you want to sound good. I don't want to bring you down, but you are probably looking at a minimum of 3-400 bucks __________________ If you're strapped for cash, check out some of the highline (Sony, AIWA, etc) mini component systems. I'm using the top-of-the-line AIWA from two years ago and it's great. I didn't even feel the need to buy the optional sub. It's retail was in the neighborhood of $450 at the time. However, if you're not stapped...there are ample options for low-end 6-speaker sets. Check out andysauction.com-they usually have closeout receivers pretty cheap. __________________ I don't need a receiver. My dvd player comes with it (it's built in). Does anyone know a model of speakers that is 5.1 but without a receiver? Hopefully under $100.__________________ Quote:
All speakers can be 5.1. 5.1 setup means 5 speakers, 1 subwoofer: 2 Fronts 1 Center 2 Rears 1 Subwoofer __________________ Quote:
They would have to be non-computer speakers. [Edited by Leon on 10-26-2000 at 10:53 AM] __________________ check out some of the speaker set ups cambridge soundworks has to offer. i am using a set up of theirs and i like it alot. i dont have my home theater set up to try and blast me out of the house, its a nice intimate setup, and the sound is great.__________________ How about this system? http://www.800.com/prod.asp?p=3895 It's a 6 piece home theater system. Any problems? __________________ yeah I'm currently looking for the same thing as you - a speaker set for my DVD player. I have done some research in home theater forums and the thing I learned is if you want good sound you'll have to pay for it. at least $3-400 for a decent speaker set.First it all depends on what your standards are. Let me tell you a personal story. For people who've never experienced a good sounding home theater system(like me a year ago), I think the upgrade from the TV speakers to computer speakers will blow them away. I mean before the whole home theater phenomenon I was never whining about watching VHS movies with just my VCR and TV. But after I got a DVD player and hooked it up to my small kenwood compoment stereo. I was blown away. And it was only the left and right channel I was listening to. Now that was about 5 months ago and after experiencing many 5.1 channel home theater setups in electronics stores, my setup at home seems embarassingly cheap. My conclusion is you'll never feel the need for a better system until you've experienced it. Go out and do some research at local stores. Any Goodguys or Curcuit City will have rooms where you can listen to these systems first hand. No offense but after that you'll feel embarassed even having mentioned the computer speakers earlier in this thread. try this link out: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi many of the people here are audiophiles who have setups priced in the thousands, but you'll find some good information for people looking for lower end setups like me as well. good luck. __________________ Quote:
Ok for a starter set. considering the wattage of your receiver, it's doable. What did was start with cheapo speakers, then replaced them a bit at a time. First the 2 fronts, then the center, then the rears. I have a set a Yahmaha's, because I like the sound of them and they fill my space correctly. All told, about 350 over a 6 month period. Yes, you could spend 3-400 or more. But price isn't the best indicator, its sound. Never buy speakers sound unheard, if you can. KLH's can be found at Best Buy and most other place, so if they sound ok to you, then go for it. Work your way up later. You may find that your personal ears Like cheap speakers, or can't tell the difference, so try 'em out. __________________ http://www.hifi.com/consumer/hifi/de...e_pac&cattab=4__________________ looks like a decent deal, if you have a smaller place, like an apartment or bedroom.Mavi forum |
