Home Audio Receiver

Does anyone know anything about buying a decent receiver?? What brand names/models are good and how much should it cost without breaking the bank?

I'm looking to spend around $400 (less would be nice) on a receiver but not over $500. BTW where can I get good audio deals on receivers and speakers??? One last thing, anyone sporting those new JBL professional series speakers? They look nice!!

I personally prefer Onkyo. There are a lot of other options but if you want 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS you can't go wrong with the Onkyo 575. You should be able to find it for about $550.00. I'm not sure how hard it is to break your bank, but this reciever should have everything you need for a great home theater.

You might also want to look at Yamaha and Denon.

onkyo is a great brand. i've had an onkyo receiver for a few years now, and i love it. the only problem is the price. if you're gonna spend $500 and up, go for a denon, they consistently prove themselves as one of the best. if you want to go cheaper, sony has a lot of options to offer at the most competitive prices. if you really dont give a ****, go find a nakamichi though, it'll blow you away

I personally prefer Pioneer and Yamaha. i've had the pioneer VSX-D606S for well over 2 years and its worked like a charm. i've never had any problems with it and it sounds great. unfortunately this model was one of the first dolby digital recievers so it set me back about 500+ the newer version of mine costs 300 i believe and has DTS too.
