there have been links to a bunch of reviews and editorials dealing with the x-box, but no opinions posted by anyone who frequents this site. so what do you think? i think microsoft is in for a big letdown if they actually go through with this. they dont seem to be gearing up to put any really unique features into the box, although, why would they tell us right now if they were. __________________ It seems to me like microsoft has a good plan, but it is also very likely that it will be delayed like every other product they have created. I doubt that it will be available in time to compete with any other super-mega-ultimo game systems. Because of this nobody will buy it unless Street Fighter 43 is only available on their machine.Fuz ------------------ -Do we have any sort of plan? -Ride `till we find them, then kill them all. __________________ You shouldn't go making assumptions until you know what you are talking about guys. The X-Box looks very promising. First of all, it's OS is based on the Win2K Kernel with DirectX 8, so it can play almost any game for windows computer. Second, it will have a 4x DVD, allowing you to view movies on it. Also, it has a 300mHz nVidia graphics chip and a 600mHz Intel CPU. These are both double what the PS2 houses. It has TV, HDTV, VGA, and Flat Panel outputs, whereas the PS2 only has TV and HDTV. It comes preinstalled with a LAN card so it is broadband internet access ready. __________________ I agree with Chris !Although I love gaming on my computer I think there may be a better overall potential on the X-Box for gaming as well as DVD etc. If this is all they claim it to be "and more?" then sign my ass up for a preorder ------------------ oops, another brain fart! __________________ I don't know much about either systems, but what about games? I heard that the X-Box games will be pretty much PC games or have PC versions out. I am looking forward to console games like Tekken and some RPGs that don't usually make it to PCs.__________________ i'm with leon on the desire to see some non-pc games, and it looks like the x-box will actually end up not being compatable with existing pc games so that microsoft and their partners can force us all to buy more games. you think that they're going to pass up the chance to force us to buy games twice? no way! by the time the x-box hits the market, the ps2 will have ten thousand titles available, which will make it more worth while, because when microsoft catches up in the games available category, sony will have a better system due for release.__________________ I'd be happier if either of the consoles allowed "mod" chips (Nothing Sinister Suggested) __________________ quote: I agree with bloodymess agreeeing with me __________________ I think the Xbox is part of a Microsoft strategy to enter the PC business. Or perhaps the PC appliance biz -- which is where it's all going anyway. Hell this thing kicks my current computer's azz. Just look at the specs: PIII, 64 megs, 8 gig HD, DVD, Nividia graphics, 3D sound chip, 100 MBps Ethernet... not to mention that 'lil expansion port. Add a modem and a subscription to MSN and someone's **** is gonna hit the fan. __________________ imagine microsoft throwing in a keyboard and saying,"oh, yeah, there's a bunch of new software just for the x box that let's you word process and search the internet faster and better than ever before. too bad it works in conjunction with the games and wont be available with any other systems>" every family would go out and get one and dell and gateway would sh!t their pants.__________________ Heh heh sounds like Web TV att. Cruise the 'net while connected to your TV. Oh boy... w_boodle: when the X-box comes out with those specs that will be a low end computer (for the most part). I've read several articles and editorials lately dealing with the sad state of pc gaming. Few games really sell well, a lot of games don't earn back the money it costed to make them and many great games $ell piss poor. Remember Heretic 2 and Grim Fandago? In my view the console market is not big enough to support 4 consoles. Sega IMHO would be better off as a game maker like Namco or Konami. They could actually make money producing great arcade and home games instead of hemorrhaging money all over the place when they take on the responsiblity of making the console themselves. Its interesting no one has mentioned Nintendo so far. Don't forget Nintendo has billion$ in the bank and this is their main business market. Nintendo is content to be the choice of the little kiddies. So they have their own targeted market they sell to. Nintendo is a tough competitor and won't be going away anytime soon even with these two behemoths competing against them. Taking a look at Microsofts history many times when they first come out with a product its not as good as the competitions. But revised products coming out later on are much improved and match up well. Make no mistake about it that when Microsoft enters the video game market things will be changed. More game choice for pc gamers will be a good thing. __________________ I wonder if I can install linux on it Fuz ------------------ -Do we have any sort of plan? -Ride `till we find them, then kill them all. __________________ i saw a picture of bill gates standing next to an x shaped box at the last game convention, where was that sna jose?, anyway, is that the way they're saying the box is going to look? a big ass x?__________________ Yea, the GDC (Game Developer's Conference) was in San Jose a week and a half ago... And no, i dont think its going to be an "X" shaped console... __________________ "...when the X-box comes out with those specs that will be a low end computer..."sbp... no doubt. But even those specs would make it a very nice consumer web appliance. And if it costs about the same as a DreamCast... and if it enjoys the power and the majesty of Microsoft branding and marketing support... Well. There are a couple hundred million people in the USA who don't have a computer at home (yet). And some millions more who don't want to spend a $1000 on a second computer for the kids. You'd think the 'lil stinker would play CD's like a PlayStation. So why the 8 gig HD? Not to mention that expansion port. |
