Hi folks-just was so excited that i passed my last exam today and became MCSE today. What a way to start the weekend huh? For all those that have been emailing me about certfication I have responded. Sorry for the lateness, but I havent checked that box in a while. I will check it daily now. Good luck to all pursuing certification and job hunting!! __________________ Congrats on the certification! I an half way there on mine. I take my 4th test(enterprise) in a week. Are you going for the Windows 2000 tests now or Cisco? __________________ congrats skyjuice and good luck to you bvalkor!!__________________ i think i am going to get that Network+ as well-its one test, i figured what the heck if I can get a cert out of it. Then I think Cisco or Win2k from there.__________________ Major congrats!!!! __________________ skyjuicewhat is the Network+ test you speak of ------------------ When I become King of the World, I will do away with TCP/IP and install a global network of talk pipes. There will also be jeffries tubes in which ferrets will run message envelopes. __________________ LOL-Wiggen Boy- "jeffries tubes" Star trek- LOL-Network + brand new cert. from comptia.org ya know like A+. __________________ I hear tales of the network + test being pretty simple, although for $180, I don't know if I really want to find out. I think if you have MCSE, N+ is kind of a moot point. Proxy 2, interesting choice for an elective. I'm suprised you didn't opt for the IIS to get the MCP + I and only have to do 2 more for MCSE + I, since you did the TCP/IP. Congratulations!! now you can start boning up on win2k if you want to keep it. __________________ I passed my networking essentials test a couple weeks back, it wasnt that bad. I have a question about the other tests. Do you think i can pass the NT server / workstation / enterprise exams without having the software. I'm at home and its really hard to find NT 4.0 and at 300+ a ccpy, buying it isnt a option. Do you thinki'll pass if i just study the books?------------------ ~Grizy Great, so how much is shipping? __________________ Well Grizzly,I mean i loaded NT server and Proxy2.0 on top of that at home on my old p2350. I used it at hoe to install NT server, create accounts, home directories-i practiced permissions and right with it. ITs really a good idea to load NT server by yourself- you will learn a hell of alot doing it that way. Grizzly-Get an eval copy of NT server- ITs for 90 days. I might still have mine,i never loaded it. [This message has been edited by skyjuice (edited 07-12-2000).] __________________ quote: I hear ya- more certs the better, is what i am thinking. I figire NETWORK+ like the A+ is a lifetime cert- Forget the money it costs to take the exams- You'll always make that back at your job. Your resume is KEY-Certs are key, but better than certs is experience. I am finding that i am having trouble getting a job cause i do not have admin experience. I am 2nd level software support right now at a major East Coast copany. IM trying to get away from end users-that is why i made the MCSE and A+. I think I am going to get my CNA ( one exam) Network + and then start boning on Novell. As far as the +I designation after MCSE. The NT4.0 trak is retiring as we all know and Microsoft said that in the Win2k track- there will be no +I distinction or designation because they feel that it is integrated in the curriculum. That is whi bailed the whole +I idea. __________________ Grizzly:Not to burst your bubble, but the Net Ess test is as easy as they come. They are a LOT harder after that, I don't even know why that test is administered to tell you the truth. It's best to be able to have at least two computers to be able to set up a home lab to run stuff. If you're just starting the track, I HIGHLY suggest you just abandon the nt4.0 track and go w/the nt2000 track. The W2K tests are live now and its basicly a complete waste of time, money and energy putting any effort towards mcse nt4.0. As far as s/w: I recommend the HOT kit from microsoft (hands on training). You get full copies of win2k pro, server and advanced server for $129. It also includes some online training which I didn't do, but looks ok. Sky, I looked for over a year for my first admin job. I did turn down a couple of offers that were either GU (geographically undesirable) or FU, but eventually I got "lucky" and got a job through a friend. Definately the BEST way to get a job!! I think I'm going to get my A+ cert next and then start working on the win2000 series. I am so fLIcking mad @ uSoft for doing it this way, but I guess it will weed out a bunch of "paper MCSE's" (hopefully not myself!!) and make the cert that much more benefi$ial. BTW, look for the evil empire to release W2k SP1 later this month. It's only a 250Mb patch. Cheers! __________________ Good info phlick- I dont know-I am getting real frustrated-I have 3 years experience doing phoe support tat involves some networking and I have A+ and MCSE- I just cant make the leap from end user nightmare to Desktop Support. I did get a call today for help desk through this agancey today and the pay was decent, like 20 an hour. The lady was all, resume looks good, you have alot of good qulaifications. Havent heard anything yet though. I hate end users! This why I need to get a Desktop Support position. I agree though, Win2k will be key for the future. I am going to take a break though. I want my CNA though. A+ is a breeze dude-youll do fine-__________________ Phlick, is the HOT kit only available through microsoft or will i find it at barnes and nobles and other places???, like places online? COUPONS!!!!------------------ ~Grizy Great, so how much is shipping? __________________ phlick- good pep talk man-. Cause right now, i am like. This sucks, I did all this for nothing, i biuld , live eat, sleep and breather certifications, computers-work all day with connection issues with end users and i sucks. I will keep trucking however. I just hate the job i am in right now.__________________ griz...The HOT kit is a msoft direct access product available through them ONLY. You can get the product here: http://www.microsoft.com/directacces...it/win2000.asp However it is currently out of stock, so try back later I guess. This is the CHEAPEST legal copies of ms w2k available. (with a few rare exceptions.. I hear Univ of Texas students get any ms product for $5.00 a CD for example...) There are also HOT kits for office 2000 for $99 which isn't too bad either. 120 day eval copies are available in a some books, although I don't know any off the top of my head. As far as getting MCSE w/out ever loading up windows NT or W2k, it is possible, but I don't recommend trying it. You learn way more from dinking around with it then from any book. You need to be able to get a feel for it and where to go to find the tools/info you need. A lot of the commands that are commonly used in windows 2000 / NT4 are not available to w9x. It's a totally different OS. __________________ [quote]Originally posted by skyjuice:[b]I dont know-I am getting real frustrated-I have 3 years experience doing phone support that involves some networking and I have A+ and MCSE.. Form alliances and meet people that are in a position to help you out or know other people who might. I know how tiresome that sounds, but I think that it's WAY more productive than blindly flying out resumes to monster/dice (although that works too!). Just hang in there and DONT SETTLE!!! I am just starting now and wondered what was up with this. Oh, and I think the MS Hot Kit only has Advanced Server not normal server. It only has 2 cds. Maybe you can install Advanced server as server.Geoff __________________ ".. I think the MS Hot Kit only has Advanced Server not normal server. It only has 2 cds. Maybe you can install Advanced server as server"Geoff MS HOT kit has w2k: Pro, server and advanced server. I don't have the kit in front of me here @ work, but it has all three OS's on their own disks, plus at least 2 training disks and maybe a "sales kit" disk as well. It's a really really sweet deal. The only version it doesn't have is Data Center Server, and that isn't released yet. (look for it in the next couple of weeks though.. about the same time as SP-1) As far as training materials, the "official" training track from MS is in distribution now and being administered at Certified MS facilities. Exam Cram has just released the W2K series, which was probably the best series as far as I am concerned for NT4.0, and the series I will first pick up when I'm ready to update to win2k cert. Good Luck!!!!! __________________ actually, now that I look at the MS HOT kit website it says:The Hands-On Training (HOT) Kit Program is currently under evaluation. We want to determine whether or not the HOT kit is the best vehicle to meet your training needs as well as supporting Microsoft initiatives and strategies. Please look to this location for information on future training materials So, it looks like this deal is closed. __________________ Phlick and (guys),I went in and took that Network+ exam. Got a 92 on it. It was so EASY!!!!!!!! It was all review from Network Essentials and MCSE stuff. I studied for 1 day, never bought a book or anything. The only thing that sucked was that it was 185.00 to take that test. Oh well, got another certification for my resume and its a lifetime cert. like my A+ was. I am going to try and get a job in my field and then go for CCNA 2.0 skyjuice- MCSE/Network+/A+/MCP [This message has been edited by skyjuice (edited 07-18-2000).] [This message has been edited by skyjuice (edited 07-18-2000).] __________________ sky-Hey congratulations! Thats quite the string of alphabet soup you're getting behind your name! __________________ LOL-ya i know phlick-it is isnt it. Was thinking of CNA now. Whats the exam you need to pass to be a CNA?__________________ cisco certification is a COMPLETELY different beast altogether from what I understand. The "test" is like $1200 and is 2 days, one day is in the lab and one day is paper test, although this could be for the CNE, I'm not sure as there are at least 3 different certifications. MCSE and A+ should be able to get you where you want to go right now. I would wait and persue Cisco certification when you can get your employer to pay for it!! (that's what I plan on doing.... as soon as I can get a good understanding of what I'm supposed to be doing now! ((WIN2K)) ) __________________ You guys with certs that are looking for a new job - where do you live, and what kind of job are you looking for?__________________ Dude, I am in Rochester NY, but willing to move? Are you an employer? Phlick, I said CNA(Certified Novell Admin), not CCNA(Certified Cisco Network Administrator). I got a job offer the other day and they wanted Novell experience. So i think i should at aleast get just the CNA cert. Its on exam, just done know which one. I think it may be like Micro$oft where you you get your MCP with one test type thing but i am not entirely sure. I checked out Novells website and it looks that way. I just need to know from the peanut gallery which one is best to prepare for. I have this awesome testing software that has like over 6000 questions in it and i love it cause it helped me pass Proxy 2.0 and Network+. Incidentally it has a ton of Novell testing software in it so i figured what the hell, get the CNA. (be well rounded). Does anyone know what exam is wise to take for CNA? __________________ What is Novell?hehe. __________________ Hey skyjuice,Don't bother with CNA. You won't need it - Novell is losing more & more market share to MS & *NIX shops. If you want another USEFUL cert, start studying Cisco. If you're interested, send me your resume & I'll pass it along - I'm not a recruiter, but my company is hiring like mad & we have offices in just about every major city in the US. It's an Internet services company. __________________ Ya- I know, i am totally blowing off NOvell. Good advice. I am currently going to get that i-Net+ real quick, that will completely close out Comptia for me (meaning i will have all there certs). Gonna get this one real quick and then i am locking myself away on the weekends and banging out CCNA 2.0-ps-resume is on the way-check yer inbox skyjuice- MCSE/MCP/A+/Network+ [This message has been edited by skyjuice (edited 07-21-2000).
