The WebHouse Club is Winding Down its Operations.
Customers: Please Read Important Refund Information Below:

Dear WebHouse Customer, October 5, 2000

The WebHouse Club will be winding down its business over the next 90 days, after which it will cease operations. Rest assured that the WebHouse Club will honor our obligations to customers and suppliers.

This announcement does not apply to any service of priceline.com - such as Airline Tickets, Hotel Rooms, New Cars, Long Distance, etc. It only applies to the WebHouse Club Grocery & Gasoline services.

Your total satisfaction is our #1 priority - especially giving you a prompt and full refund of any money we owe you for groceries and gas you have not yet picked up.

Here is exactly what we plan to do to make sure you are 100% satisfied:

1.Please do not use your Green WebHouse Grocery Card or Blue Gasoline Card for any further transactions at the grocery store or gas station.
2.You need do nothing. No later than Friday, October 20th, we will automatically issue a credit to your credit card on file at the WebHouse Club for the full amount of any groceries or gasoline you have not picked up.
3.In the next 72 hours, we will calculate how much money we owe you.
4.We will send you an e-mail summarizing our refund calculation.
5.Your credit will include extra money to cover our estimate of the savings that you would have received at the store or the gas pump. Your refund credit will also include payment for any unused grocery tokens that you earned by accepting one of our partner offers.

Please remember, this announcement does not apply to all priceline.com services such as airline tickets, hotels, etc. It only covers the groceries and gasoline services at the Webhouse Club.

In summary, to get your full refund plus our added money for the savings you missed out on, you need do nothing. No later than Friday, October 20th, we will automatically issue a full credit to your credit card for any groceries or gasoline balance remaining in your account.

We know you're disappointed that we can't continue to provide you with grocery and gas savings and we appreciate all that you've done for us as our customer. In just under one year, the Priceline WebHouse Club has attracted over 2 million customers, but market conditions are such that we have decided to wind down our operations over the next 90 days. We apologize for any inconvenience and please let us know if we can fix any problem or answer any questions about your account.

Again, thank you for using the WebHouse Club. Our Web site Customer Service Department will remain fully open to help you in any way we can. We hope that you will continue to use priceline.com services in the future and that even as we wind down our Grocery and Gasoline Services, we at the WebHouse Club will continue to earn your confidence.

Sincerely,

The Webhouse Club Team.

P.S. Questions about your automatic refund? Please wait for your e-mail if you can, and then if you still have questions, you can also send our WebHouse Customer Service Department an e-mail at any time:

Amusingly enough, the gas station across the street from my house (one of my company's customers) just finished replacing their pumps last week for the purpose of upgrading their CC handling system to allow Priceline cards to work. The best price I could get out of them only beat the paltry 5% employee discount I get by a cent, plus they've got a 6c/gal coupon on their website, so I'm not real upset. Now, if I could have paid for priceline's fuel with my company CC, _and_ used the 6c coupon, I'd be really po'd right now.

I just bought 30 gallons from them a couple of weeks ago. I've only used up 8! I better get my money back.

Just recently (last week or so) there has been a HUGE radio campaign in support of the Priceline Grocery here in Madison, WI. There have almost been as many Priceline commerials on the radio as those damned annoying Dodge commercials.

Hey, does anyone know WHY priceline is stopping these deals? Man, I've been saving like 16-17 cents/gallon with this club. Luckily, I just used up all my gallons this past Saturday.

Are there any more places out there to give good prices for gas? I don't want to go to carclub.com because they never fuel the membership card even after you've signed up for certain gallons. Then carbclub says it will take up to 3 days to go through and that didn't happen.

Let's start looking for some new gas sites!

Thanks a lot priceline........... =O(

Seems weird. although I myself purchased two 40 gallon cards almost two months ago, each one at 18 cents below pump price and another at 20 cents below. When I first tried for those prices, the "good chance" price was something like 11 cents under pump. Having tried just this week, the "good chance" price was something like, 6 cents under pump price. they must be getting burned on the gas deals. I myself still have a 40 gallon card, and I intend to try to use it today. they're not going to charge you more for gas you use, what if, god forbid, we didnt find out about this announcement until.. the weekend.
keep using those cards until they dont work. keep saving. whatever you do not use will still be refunded.

enjoy.

Priceline stock has been taking a beating the last few weeks. They are not able to show a profit as they had expected.

When that happens, it's only a matter of time until services get cut. I think the Death Watch has started for Priceline.

Is it too late to get some more gas? I'd like to even get at least 20 more gallons! Does anyone know?

Kevs,

It's too late. If you have a card already, try and use it still. I still haven't received an 'official' e-mail from them, so I am going to assume the card will be good until then.

Here's a link to a story at News.com

Well, losing 40% of your stock price in a day might lead a panicked CEO to abandon experimental business units. Frankly, I couldn't see how they were going to make much money with the grocery business, but the gas seemed to be a pretty solid idea, and a nice contrast to their travel business (which reacts negatively to high gas prices).
Some say Priceline is headed for the crapper, but I'd be surprised if it disappeared. I also wouldn't be surprised if this wasn't just a temporary interruption. These cost cutting moves are usually ploys to bouy (sp?) floudering share price. There's definitely money to be made in the gas service...

I got this e-mail an hour ago.

"you may still use your card at any
time before 12:01 AM EST on Saturday, October 7th. Starting Saturday
October 7th - your Grocery and Gas cards will be turned off and will
no longer work."

Captain Kirk jumped in his Starship and took off for another planet after cashing in his stock last week. We sure will miss seeing his great TV spots!!!

Read the info below.

If you want your gas, hurry!

We have some disappointing news for our customers. Sadly, starting

Heh, all day I've had to listen to the customer service people outside my office tell people that we can't charge their priceline cards and that they need to call priceline.

Man I am a asst. manager of a grocery store and one of my customers got upset because his priceline card wouldn't work. I decided to call the customer service rep to find out what he did wrong. I get a voice recording saying they are closing down. Nice way to find out huh? Man you want to talk about a customer getting upset. I guess I better stay away in the future from him.

Cards no longer work--don't even try to use them. Got another email from Priceline a few hours ago stating such.

Interesting, I used mine at around 6pm CDT and it still worked (gas card). I think it interesting that Priceline will not honor these cards anymore, since they have to give back the customer's money. Why not let the paying customers use up their cards? That way Priceline won't have the hassle of having to refund everyone.....

Anyone else doubtful about the prompt refund promise?

Yeesh, I feel for you, NiceThing. I'm the type of person that would just blow up at whoever the messenger was (sorry to say!). I trust the customer was rather...incensed.

Well, despite what they seem to have said about being able to use the card until 12:01am October 7, I just tried my card a half hour ago and it didn't work. My guess is that as the system goes through accounts and tallies up credits due, it probably shuts the card off and sends off the request for credit at the same time to prevent sending off the credit and then having you use the card and getting essentially free product.
At least, if their system has half a brain, that's what it probably ought to do. Of course, assuming companies have half a clue about how best to run their systems is usually cause for frustration.

Hmm... just when I was going to check into using PL's
gas service. Since I'm in NJ, state laws don't allow
such a service to exist here, so I just signed up for
a gas credit card (5% back). It's better than nothing,
especially when I'm spending at least $120 for gas each
month (on regular, mind you).

Hehe, wonder what Shatner did with his options?

I just hope we won't have to endure more of those crappy
PL commercials!!
