Talk about suckage! Friends you don't know the meaning of the word. Allow me to explain. . . In the year 1998 I got a job working for my dad at the ripe age 21. I made 65,000. that year. The thing is I got paid with out the IRS taking taxes out directly. I have to pay in quarterly installments, then a lump sum with the rest of the tax payers on April 15 on my balance. Well, that year I paid them 11,500 in taxes. I admit it wasn't hard to do, I spent like a fiend and filled my apartment with toys of every variety. But still could afford their fee. Well, flash to the present, I get a letter in the mail from them a few weeks ago that said something to the effect of, " You have a 5000. credit with the IRS, what would you like us to do with it?" I was elated! I thought somehow I overpaid them. I spent that money in my mind that very same day, I was going to buy myself a party boat. Ski, swim, and screw the summer away. Well apon talking to the IRS I realized where the money was from. It is their contention that the 5000. was the ONLY payment they recieved that year!!! not the 11,500 I know I paid. I scrambled to find the cancelled checks and money orders for my payments, but I couldn't find jack! I chalk it up to being young and very dumb. I didn't keep track of anything. I assumed I paid them and it was over! Now I am faced with paying them an ADDITIONAL 6500. That is money I already paid them once. The moral is to KEEP GOOD RECORDS. They will call you out eventually just to see if you can back yourself up. I've talked to numerous people that claim the same thing, but they infact had records and didn't have a problem. I curse them, and curse myself. The horror, the shear horror of it!!!!

Finding records of cancelled checks can't be that hard to find. I'm sure you bank keeps records like that for you...unless you walked up to the IRS and paid them in cash, in which case you deserve to pay a $6,500 stupidity tariff. Regardless, I feel for you, but I'm pretty sure there's some record of your fiduciary activity.__________________
I did search extensivly for the records. One quartly installment was in the amount of 4500. That I paid with a cashiers check. The bank was not very pleased about helping my find it, but we looked. Oh did we look! No avail. Another missing payment was in limbo from me moving from one place to another. I checked both banks records,my new town and my old town. Both branches. But again, nothing was found. Believe me, I didn't give up the fight paying them their money the second time around without all avenues explored. I did my best. Thanks for the empathy though!
