check out http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/Forum5/HTML/003205.html for my letter. PLEASE DO NOT COPY IT. I just wanted it to help you formulate whats necessary to tell the FTC. __________________ Check this out! I just received the same "sign up for Paypal" email again from the scammers at Rhinopoint that they sent out just a couple of weeks ago. Oddly (or maybe not so oddly), there was no mention of any firm date for any kind of payout. This sure seems like a very weak and obvious attempt to string us all along just a little longer so that maybe they can keep the feds off their back long enough to make a clean getaway with our money. I, for one, am fed up with their feeble attempts to placate us and am going to report them to the FTC. I realize that Apex has a little more on his mind at this time than to worry about this Rhinopoint scam, but I would hope that he might become a little more involved when he gets back, especially in view of the fact that his promotion of these losers may very well have resulted in financial damage to many of his loyal forum members. __________________ I'm with you. I changed over to MSN thinking that Rhino would pay my $21.95 monthly fee. The $400 was nice but it would be nicer to have an ISP that doesn't lock up every 5 minutes and doesn't cost $21.95 per month!!__________________ Ugh, I cannot believe I actually fell for this one myself..Does anyone have the address for the Attorney General of Illinois? They'd probably be quite interested to hear about this as well... (I probably should've disputed the charges on my credit card but I can just see them giving my CC company a runaround, just enough that I'd look like a fool disputing before xx # of days after a survey closed.) __________________ I got that email too. What's worse is that they are going to make all that money on paypal REFERRALS. UGH. At least I already have a paypal account!I don't feel like I'm falling for their schemes AGAIN.__________________ To complain about rhinopoint you will need their actual business name. itsExodus Technologies, Inc. (aka rhinopoint)(their actual name) 2300 N. Barrington Road Suite 400 Hoffman Estates, IL 60195 United States I believe the ftc would define this type of scam as a BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY/Multi Level Marketing There are three ways you can contact the Federal Trade Commission's Consumer Response Center: Phone: toll-free 1-877-FTC-HELP (382-4357) Regular mail: Federal Trade Commission CRC-240 Washington, D.C. 20580 As taken from www.ftc.gov: If you have a complaint about a particular company or organization, use our complaint form. This form outlines the information that is most useful to us and allows you to send it to us conveniently. https://www.ftc.gov/ftc/complaint.htm should you need any further help please contact us: Phone: toll-free 1-877-FTC-HELP (382-4357) Regular mail: Federal Trade Commission CRC-240 Washington, D.C. 20580 ------------------------------ It is great to know that us Got Apex? users are more than just leechers of a free deal. It is people like us who also weed out the bad for the rest of us. Don't think that just because one person is going to make a complaint to the ftc that its enough. ftc usually will NOT take notice until quite a few complaints have been received. I urge all of you to not let scam artists get away with even 12 dollars (some of you $15). UPDATE #2 it gets even better. did a little more searching through network solution's data and found this Rhinopoint.com Contact info: DeVore, Duncan (DD6311) duncan@EXODUSTECH.COM Exodus Technologies, Inc. P.O. Box 857 Worcester, PA 19490-0984 (215) 661-8740 (FAX) (215) 661-8750 Now I am not sure if they are in PA or in IL. I believe that you might need to go after the one in PA as the parent company of this scam. I reccomend you all use the one in IL for the actual address and in the detailed problem field you note that its parent company is the address listed above. [This message has been edited by fsck (edited 07-06-2000).] __________________ Exodus TechnologiesMan, that's great. Maybe it should just be Exodus-with-your-money Technologies. Gosh, I feel lucky not getting caught in this mess. Good luck, folks! __________________ Rhinopoint-- CHARGE!!! EVERYONE who's been scammed by them, come on-- PLEASE fill out a complaint. If we get enough into the FTC we may at least see our $12/$15 fees back. This is what we pay tax dollars for, let's make the FTC work for us!Thanks for your info, fsck! I just sent off my FTC complaint. I put it as Computers/Internet Services. Here is the text of my complaint: Rhinopoint promises to pay customer's monthly internet bill in exchange for completing surveys. Rhinopoint charges a $15.95 setup fee to prove you are a "serious" individual. Company appears to be a fraud; I have not been paid after completing a survey. Attempts to contact the company to get more details have been fruitless. They will never give specifics and attempt to lead customers on with baseless promises (of the "we're working on it" variety). According to internet domain information, this may be thier parent company: Rhinopoint.com Contact info: DeVore, Duncan (DD6311) duncan@EXODUSTECH.COM Exodus Technologies, Inc. P.O. Box 857 Worcester, PA 19490-0984 (215) 661-8740 (FAX) (215) 661-8750 Please help! Thank you for your time. __________________ I thought I'd drop a line to let you all know about my RhinoPoint experience....I signed up too. I think I paid $12 when I firt heard about it. I did get one check from them about 90 after signing up. I emailed them asking about the delay for the first survey... they said it took quite a while to work up the demographics to get a survey that would actually apply to me. After my first survey, the check came a month or so later. That was the only check! Granted, I have gotten my money back but they haven't fulfilled their obligation. I have been trying to get through to them with email b/c I have 3 or 4 unpaid surveys answered. I'll keep you all posted if I hear something! __________________ I signed up after hearing people were getting paid (notcreative!!). I intend on writing a letter to the FTC, as I haven't gotten jack 5hit after over 120 now, and like 4 "surveys". I especially like the paypal refferal/spam. Exodus, stage left! Mavi forum |
