Component Output: please explain!

Now, I see that the PS2 has these new-fangled component output thingamajigees. Can you use normal RCA cables to hook that badboy up, or are we looking at something else? Like some sort of optical cable or something? Help, Leon!!

You use normal RCAs, but only if your TV has the component inputs. Otherwise you gotta use S-Video. And if your TV doesn't have that, you gotta gotta use the normal single-RCA video.

Thanks for the reply, I actually just found out that Stupid Sony requires a special type of connector/cable for the PS2-component output. I'm also pretty sure I have component outputs... I have a WEGA XBR 400

Four types of connections ranging from best to worst:

1) Component (video signal separated into three)
2) S-Video (separated into two)
3) Compostite (one signal)
4) RFU (crap)

For your PS2/XBR combo, it would be a shame not to use component. I think you can get a PS2 component cable for like $10 at EB.

at Sony are really workin' overtime on this one. I called the nearest EB (where that is, I have no idea. Houston is basically one overgrown Southern slum...) and the guy was like "Official or third party?" The prices, please, maestro:

3rd party: Nan nanny-nan!

Official: $24.99

Is it not enough that games are pushing fitty bucks? Is it not enough that the stupid system only comes with one controller and mem cards cost over $30? Now they're trying to rip you off for ****ing cables? Excuse me while I lube up my rear end, I feel the need for a DVD remote...

Hmm... The 3rd party one was half that price. Not sure if the quality was a big difference. Monster is going to make PS2 component cables now. I'm sure it's going to be $50-$100 too. SHEESH! Give me the 3rd party cables, thankyouverymuch.
