I've asked this before, but....what do y'all read?

Fiction or non-fiction, good, bad, or intellectual pabulum. I'm mostly just curious. Any favorite authors? I think this will yeild more interesting responses, since the last time I asked this question renots wasn't yet on the board. So just let me know. I'll try anything once.

Lessee,

Grand Royal issue #2 (www.grandroyal.com) - A great magazine put out by the Beastie Boys' production company. Its funny as hell and has great articles on all types of bands, fashion, and social phenomena. Only got out about 5 or 6 issues, and haven't put any more out in years, so its probably dead. I have 4 issues and this one is by far the tops. Includes:

- An essay on the history and social impact of the mullet
- An article linking Timothy Leary to the CIA
- An interview with Ted Nugent that will have you ****ting in your pants laughing
- A feature on the best magazines to roll joints on
- a 30ish page spread on the life and times of Lee "Scratch" Perry

Also, I've been reading:

Dynamo Application Server and Dynamo Personalizer Server programmers manual
Metaphysics by Aristotle
Three Ways of Thought In Ancient China by Arthur Waley, Doubleday & Company, Inc.
The Age of Power by Carl J. Friedrich and Charles Blitzer, Cornell University Press
Snow Crash, Neal Stephenson
13th Generation: Abort, Retry, Ignore, Fail? by Neil Howe and Bill Strauss, Random House
Fodor's Rock & Roll Traveler USA by Tim Perry & Ed Glinert - The "Ultimate guide to juke joints, street corners, whiskey bars and hotel rooms where music history was made."

I haven't read a book for fun since before high school. See what public education does to you? 14 year olds should not be reading 300 page novels and required to talk about them and write about them. Then when you get to college you have to read 100 pages a night. Who has the time or desire to 'pick up a good book' after that... I'd rather watch the tube.

When I get a chance to read-I usually head for the World War II stuff first..right now I am reading "TREBLINKA" by Jean Francois Steiner, who was a prison camp survivor. and also reading 'THE STORY OF MY EXPERIMENTS WITH TRUTH'-by Mahatma Gandhi..its a first edition that I picked up on ebay for a FAB price..(its also very interesting)..lets see..Besides the WWII stuff..probably autobiographies and anything that has to do with the British Crown. Oh..and the national enquirer-for us inquiring minds (hehehehe)but I do get ROLLING STONE magazine and even though I TOTALLY protest them putting AL GORE on the cover I will keep up my subscription. hmph.

Mostly fiction. Current favorite author is Dean Koontz. Just finished "Dark Rivers of the Heart" - awesome read. Also, I've read everything by Tom Clancy, including the new one, The Bear and the Dragon. PC Gamer is always by my bed, and occasionally I do pick up a good non-fiction read usually about history or politics.

Good stuff. I'm just sorry renots didn't post because he's into some strange stuff. I'm mostly lit: Faulkner, Henry James, Dostoyevsky, but that's mostly cause it's my major. For sheer fun I read mystery, especially P.D. James. She's my favorite of all. Non-fiction tends to be social sciences; I'm rather weak on the maths and sciences (pure or applied). Keep the suggestions coming. Jennifer
