Are we loosing our personal freedoms?

check out these two ordinances they are trying to pass in our city:

http://www.stillwater.org/cc081400/ord2695.htm

http://www.stillwater.org/cc081400/ord2694.htm

it made me physically sick when I read them.

basically it boils down to the fact that 2 or 3 huge apartment complexes have been raised around town, and sat empty for 6 - 12 months (probably because the rent is too high)

I figured they bribed someone to submit a law saying that you can't have more than 3 unrelated people living in the same house (forcing them to find dwelling elsewhere, like in the apt complexes), and that you can't park you car in the grass etc...

am I wrong to be hot under the collar about this?

You are not wrong.
See if you can get help crushing these laws from organizations like the ACLU. These laws discriminate against the poor who have to share a dwelling to survive high costs. What are the disclosure laws in your community? Does the Mayor or City Counsel have a share in these apartments? Have they received gifts or campaign contributions from the owners? Call in the news. Many stations have consumer advocates that live for the opportunity to blast a public official for trying to make a buck at other people's expense.
Even if they aren't making any money it's just wrong. Telling people where they can and can't live. How big their driveway has to be?!? These people need to get a life.

Get help, go after them, show no mercy.

If you own property you should be able to put anything you want on it, except for certain nuclear devices, etc. Sounds like a bunch of busybody neighbor associations are afraid that ugly car down the block might reduce their property values. Dear God we can't have that, now can we?

As to the second, it is definitely infringing upon peoples rights, privacy being the most obvious. Where do you live? Stillwater, or Dauchau? What state is that in so I can be sure to avoid it?

This type of **** is crazy, its like they dont want us to have anything. Trust me, I live in Tulsa and live in apartments, I know. As far as parking I have one of my cars over to my Mothers house and it was in the grass at first, then they came and the BAD people came and told me I have to move it because its not running. Little do they know it does work and run damn good. It my project car and over there because I have no time to work on it.

Now it takes up her driveway, until she moves her car out the garage.

ORDINANCES -----> MAJOR SUCKAGE

It's a common ordinance in college towns... the idea is to keep housing affordable for 'families.' The idea is that if 4 or 5 people in a house together are willing to pay 300 or 400$ each (more in California) single and dual income families will be priced out of the neighborhood. What really irks the busybodies is that these people are disproportionately young and minority and college students.

That's the logic. Also, they will try to claim that it is unsafe.

It's a bunch of BS if you ask me.

I agree it sounds like a load of BS

Well, I'd love to take action, but I'm 19, a student, and live w/ th parents outside the city limits where we can still do just about anything we damn well please!

A warning did get passed around work on the Notes server, so at least a few more people are aware now.

Zenbooty, I live in Stillwater, OK. Please do avoid it - were right in the middle of hick-town USA.
