screw metallica. they can take their records and shove it up each others asses. __________________ shove metallicas records up their ass? You realize that without metallica, the music world would be nothing like it is today. Metallica has impacted every hard rock/metal band started in the last decade. They have inspired Pantera, Max Cavelera, etc. "Master of puppets are pulling your string, twisting your mind, and smashing your dream. Blinded by me you cant see a thing, just call my name and I'll hear you scream" -- Metallica In this case, Napster is pulling your string, trying to make you believe that by using their software, you are against all the money hungry music executives and band members. This is especially not true since Napster received the lone from the music company a few weeks ago __________________ Metallica is now suck. I have all their albums up until the black ablum. After that one, they lost their edge, I mean the crap sounds like country music. As far as I'm conserned, Metallica died in a plane crash after the black album. What a bunch whiny millionares, crying because people like me won't buy any of their new garbage, and then blaming it on Napster. Take a hint dorks... Everything that I've downloaded off of Napster, that I've liked, I support the band and go buy their CD, go to their show, buy their T-shirts. Heck, I've bought 2 copies of the same Tool CD, because it got so worn out, and I didn't mind it because I get so much enjoyment out of the band. __________________ Quote:
Oh dear God. I used to be one of the biggest Metallica fans but I'm rapidly growing tired of this "New Image" Bob Rock introduced to them in 91'. You obviously haven't obsessively studied the band like I did. Before And Justice For All, Metallica hated publicity and all that popular music crap that I still can't stand. You could only find Metallica played on low rated metal radio stations. They couldn't stand MTV and VH1 and violently refused to be seen on either. They refused to let it be "about the money." When they produced their first music video (One) it was a product of THEIR minds. Since then, they've been letting producers (like Bob Rock) alter their work to tweak the sales. Compare their music from the black album on to their music while Cliff Burton was still around. You'll notice a big change in attitude, sound, and style. They've sold out. It used to be about the music. Now it's about the money, bud. Look at Garage Inc. Based on the old LP of covers that was supposed to be sold for a few bucks, now they've mass marketed covers that OTHER bands have written. Why do that? to make a buck. (I own every album they've produced. I've earned my right to have their songs on mp3 format.) Oh yeah, one more thing. Why hasn't anyone filed a lawsuit against Record Companies for price fixing? Anyone notice how even though technology progresses, CD prices have remained around $15 for over a DECADE? Napster is just a counterattack. And I thank them for shaking the music industry like it has. Greedy bastards like that deserve to have it all come crashing down. oh yeah, here's my link for napster. I don't know if y'all have seen this, but here it is. http://www.joecartoon.com/buddies/chaos/index.html [Edited by gwilks98 on 12-07-2000 at 10:35 PM] __________________ Quote:
Speaking of TOOL, their new box DVD/CD will be out dec. 12th. Im looking forward to it. I met maynard at work last year, he signed my undertow cover. They are awesome. __________________ Quote:
Tool, now THERE's a band. Y2J, you should watch some of their videos. They never appear in them. Why? Because they want people to focus on their music, not the artists. __________________ Tool is by far my favorite band. I can't wait until their new album comes out. They are sorta weird, but the best musicans out there right now. I saw them at Red Rocks, and that was the best show I've ever been to.[Edited by M_A_C on 12-08-2000 at 05:28 AM] __________________ heheh excellent obby__________________ Quote:
That was an awesome video. I have most of their vids on PC, and that is by far the best. I've followed them for a while. They used to promote trading of bootleg tapes just to get their name heard. The new TOOL box set, on the DVD, has all of their music videos on it. __________________ yeah, ideas like putting such a morbid movie in a video was pretty much unseen until Metallica had the balls to do that.Enter Sandman was another awesome one. __________________ Quote:
That fundamentally misses the fulcrum of the record industry. Artists make their money touring, and only a fraction from their record sales. Some think of record sales as mere marketing tools to their tour schedule. Why? There are so many "requisite" hanger-ons and parasites connected to the production of a record, even major artists will receive far less than 20% on the dollar. An example? I happened to notice TLC went bankrupt despite going quad-platinum or something ridiculous. A major act like Metallica will fetch on the order of $95-$250,000 a show. I've seen higher. Sure, that includes having to pay such high-wage team members like roadies or sound techs. Metallica is so short-sighted on this one, it's not even funny. Here's the problem: they've blown through their cash from years bygone, and want easy money. It doesn't get any easier than selling CD's. What's hard is sitting in a bus for 30 hours as you drive from city to city, screaming into a mic for 90 minutes, and loading your ass back onto the bus for the next show. THAT'S hard work, and Metallica just doesn't want to earn their money anymore. __________________ Quote:
Yup... Preach on my brother, preach on! __________________ Pennypinch, you're missing something.TLC and other bands that went quad plantinum went broke mostly do to lavish spending and no investing. And bands really don't make any money unless they are in the game 10+ years. Metallica's not even the real loser against Napster. It's the record companies that make the fat cash off sales, not the bands, like you said. __________________ Quote:
You ever seen TLC in concert? NO!?! I wonder why "bands" like that don't do concerts... Quote:
Thats BS... Just look at N-sync (I know it's tough) you wanna tell me they havn't made any money? Better yet, Look at Limp Bizkit, they havn't been together more than 4, maybe 5 years at most, and their last record sold more than any other rock record ever. Mavi forum |
