So I'm sitting here eating some Triscuit Baked Whole Wheat Wafers with homemade salmon dip (yes, even though I am an electrical engineer and computer nerd, I still know how to cook - gourmet style), when I noticed the contest on the Triscuit box. Dan Marino, "I'll take you to the game!" meaning the Super Bowl. Apparently Dan told hs teammates that every year he played, and look how well he came through then! Anyway, on the side of the box is the fine print for the "Official Condensed Rules." The rules fill the entire side of the box!! How condensed is that!! I would hate to see the unabridged version of the contest rules!! Yikes! With that thought, I realized how silly our legal system is. Companies must now mention every single condition for every single possibility of them running into trouble with the contest (be it people taking advantage of the system or what not), such as - you must live in a city with an elevation of 2,450 feet or higher and must the present winning box in a vat of mayonaise and then pull it out with your teeth in the presense of a Triscuit janitor. 20 years ago (or maybe even 10 years ago), I bet the rules were much more simple for contests. How things have changed thanks to our wonderful legal system. __________________ Well..you can't have a complicated legal system with out the people who are making it complicated. I remember watching a video in government class (a couple years back) of some lady who kept on sueing people for the sillest things! Like the neighbors where playing basketball and where kind of rowdy so she sued them for noise complaint. Or she was walking on the street and slipped and fell breaking her ankle. She ended up sueing the city and the shoe company of the shoes she was weariing. Needless to say she kept on sueing left and right. So the point of the story is that the greed of the people complicated the legal system...I mean it didn't just happen for the heck of it. Quote:

One set of neighbors didn't like another set of neighbors and then kept trying to change the rules in the neighborhood homeowners' association to create heartburn for those who didn't like them. So, we have some weird laws in the neighborhood about what kinds of cars you can drive, what colours of paint you can have, what types of window blind colours you can legally use, etc. I've heard of other neighborhoods where people who didn't like some neighbors tried to get laws passed where you cannot park cars that are visible from the street. There is one neighborhood that is like that already. Anyways, why did Group#1 want rules like that passed. Well, Group#1 had sufficient parking for their cars, but knew that Group#2 didn't have enough parking for their cars and would have to park them far away! So, years later, you might move to a neighborhood and wonder why the laws are screwy; it might be that way due to uncommon sense strategies like that. __________________ Well, it is our legal system's fault. If it wasn't organized in such a way that would allow such insane rules and regulation to be passed, things would be much simpler. And if people had some common sense and a love for fellow man, there would be no "park your car out of sight" rules, etc., either. |
