Other e-stores closing!

On page 98 of the latest issue of GROK magazine, Focus on Retail, December/January issue (published by the Industry Standard, an Internet Economy magazine), they published a list of E-tailers that are on their last leg. Just wanted to post this so people who have gift certificates or coupons can use them before its too late (I feel for all those who lost their $50 Eve.com GCs). It's not definite that they will shut down, but it doesn't look good... Beyond.com: Their stock is only $2, down from $40 PlanetRX.com: They have less than 2 quarters with of cash left Outpost.com: Only has enough capital to last til the end of 2001 Pets.com: OOPS... too late. Bluefly.com: Has less than 1 quarter's worth of cash as of July, is extending credit to take it through the end of 2000 CDNOw.com: Less than 1 quarter's worth of cash and has shareholder's lawsuits Egghead.com: Only has 6 months' worth of cash left Got this post from another site. __________________ oh man...out all the online stores, I like Outpost.com the best and now they might go under? Dang I should run those companies! I never heard of them __________________ Grok magazine is the bi-monthly special issues of Industry Standard, which itself is a weekly magazine... Beyond.com has changed its focus on the B2B market, so it's retail store is no longer their primary focus. CDNow.com has been bought out by Bertelsmann which also owns a majority share in Barnesandnoble.com in addition to owning Lycos, Tripod, DealTime, BOL.com, numerous magazines, BMG, Arista, RCA, the TV Stations RTL and Channel 5 in Europe. They also went into a controversial deal with Napster... So I don't think CDNow is any longer in danger, although their marketing strategy could change significantly. __________________ That's too bad. Beyond.com, bluefly, and egghead are no big loss, but the others are disturbing. No deals from beyond.com in a LONG time, bluefly never really gave me any deals, and egghead rarely honored good deals anyway. On the other hand though, PlanetRx bought me over 120,000 clickrewards miles during their promo last year ($2000 worth of free digicams). Pets.com has been feeding my cat for free for a long time (and my cat eats a lot). CDNow has been a good source of cheap CDs, and Outpost.com sold me two big heavy 1500VA UPSes (shipped overnight free) for $99 each. Those stores will be missed.
