I'm planning to take a roadtrip to Maine. Anyone know of any good (and cheap) places to stay and good places to go fishing out at sea? Thanks. __________________ Hey Ugly. I grew up in Maine. i lived there from the time I was 6 until about the age of 22. As far as cheap places to stay, you are going to be out of luck because it is the height of tourist season right now. If you travel a bit inland - maybe Brunswick, Lewiston, Augusta (my hometown), Waterville, or Bangor (where Stephen King lives) you will probably find more vacancies and cheaper rooms. As far as fishing, I am not an avid fisherman but I would recommend going to Boothbay Harbor, or Bar Harbor (Acadia National Park) and checking down at the docks. There are several charter fishing outfits willing to take on passengers. You also may want to check Camden, Searsport, and Rockland as well. Further south along the coast (Ogonquit, York, Kennebunkport) is pretty heavy tourist territory but still worth seeing. Don't forget to go to Freeport and shop at L.L. Beans and while you're in that area, there is actually a "Desert of Maine". It's the damndest thing. There is an actual desert (real fine sand) in the middle of a forest just west of Freeport. It costs $7.00 to get in so not sure if it's worth it to you but it is a novelty. Anyway, hope this has been some help to you. Ayuh, Tim __________________ Thanks Tim. I appreciate your input. I'll keep all that in mind when planning my trip. |
